Midwest Movement Collective prioritizes transparent and equitable employment opportunities for the community. Before opening in June 2022, studio leadership invested in hosting consultant-led focus groups to learn more about being a responsible employer. During those focus groups, we learned about the systems, benefits, and procedures that help people feel safe, welcomed, and supported at work. As a result of those focus groups, MMC has always relied on a distributed leadership model and a collaborative approach to operations and decision-making with staff.
Any prospective candidate can review MMC’s payscale and Personnel Guidebook ahead of applying - both of these documents were created with input from industry professionals and local wage data.

APPREnticeship & TRaining @ mmc
MMC recognizes there are barriers to accessing safe & adequate training in dance, pole, aerial arts, and movement practice in general. Earning certifications for instruction can be costly, time consuming, and culturally challenging. MMC has invested in two avenues for assisting individuals in pursuing movement arts training: apprenticeship and contracted training.
Contracted training
Midwest Movement Collective partners with independent training services to offer movement instruction certifications. These trainings are typically offered in-person at the studio once per year, and are open to anyone who meets the listed prerequisites for each specific training (prerequisites are set by the contracted company, not by MMC). MMC can often support attendees with partial or full scholarships for training. If scholarships are available, the scholarship form will be listed on the registration page for that specific training opportunity.
MMC has worked with the following companies for certification training:
San Francisco Pole & Dance - Pole Foundations & Pole L2 teacher training (2024)
Paper Doll Militia - Aerial Silks and Lyra teacher training (2025)
Upcoming training opportunities:
San Francisco Pole & Dance - Active Flexibility Teacher Training (July 12-13, 2025) and Heels Teacher Training (July 19-20, 2025) at Midwest Movement Collective
Paper Doll Militia Online Teacher Training (Lyra or Silks) - next session is July 12-September 5, 2025

Apprenticeship
Apprenticeship allows individuals with pre-existing experience in a movement style to be mentored by an MMC instructor. We request demonstration of specific entry-level skills to qualify for the program. Individuals then move through three stages of training:
Shadowing / mentoring (unpaid) - observing an experienced instructor teaching classes at MMC.
Assistantship (paid) - starting to teach part of classes in collaboration with your mentor at MMC.
Apprenticeship (paid) - teaching with observation and feedback from your mentor at MMC.
Apprenticeships are offered at the discretion of studio management and our instructors. We are most likely to accept apprenticeship applications for the roles we are currently hiring for.
An apprenticeship timeline can be expected to take 8-10 weeks, depending on the incoming experience level of the individual.
